China cautions the U.S. against deploying fighter jets piloted by Artificial Intelligence.

Recently, U.S. Air Force Secretary Frank Kendall flew aboard an experimental F-16 Fighting Falcon fighter jet equipped with artificial intelligence. This development has raised concerns for the People’s Republic of China, as AI-piloted combat aircraft could offer superior capabilities and faster response times compared to human-piloted planes.   Notably, this is not the first instance of testing an AI-controlled aircraft. In mid-April, the experimental X-62A VISTA, based on an F-16 fighter and used for AI testing, participated in simulated aerial combat against other F-16 fighters of the United States Air Force. PH & CHINA - The Philippines stops China's purported construction of 'artificial island' in the West Philippine Sea.

The Philippines has successfully halted China's alleged efforts to construct an artificial island in the West Philippine Sea. This move underscores the ongoing territorial disputes and tensions in the region, as both nations assert their claims over the strategically important waters. The prevention of this construction reflects the Philippines' commitment to protecting its maritime sovereignty and maintaining regional stability.

Through continuous efforts, the Philippine government has successfully halted China's alleged illegal activities in the West Philippine Sea (WPS), specifically at Escoda Shoal.

During a press forum on Saturday, May 11, 2024, Commodore Jay Tarriela, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) spokesperson for the WPS, reported that China had been attempting to construct an "artificial island" at Escoda Shoal, located just 75 nautical miles from the Palawan coastline.

"They are using corals as fill material in these areas. This means they have to destroy as many corals as possible to use them as a foundation for their island reclamation. At Escoda Shoal, they are just beginning this process. For instance, the dumping of corals at Sandy Cay has allowed them to expand the land area, creating an artificial island," he said.

"They stopped, basically because since we've been there for 26 days, they haven't done any dumping anymore; instead, they're just deploying divers to take measurements and such. We haven't seen any actual dumping activity from them here. Our mere presence has already deterred China from engaging in such illegal actions," he added.

Tarriela emphasized the importance of the PCG's continuous monitoring in the area, which has prevented China's activities. He reported that they have monitored a total of 34 Chinese Maritime Militia vessels at Sabina (Escoda) Shoal, along with People's Liberation Army Navy vessels, helicopters, and four China Coast Guard vessels.

Tarriela reiterated the PCG's commitment to maintaining a prolonged presence at Escoda Shoal to document China's activities in the WPS.

He emphasized that the PCG must work around the clock to stop China's alarming activities. The 244-meter vessels, BRP Cabra and BRP Malabrigo, are being deployed in rotation at Escoda Shoal to ensure continuous awareness of the activities of the Chinese Coast Guard, Chinese Maritime Militia, Chinese research vessels, and marine scientists in the area.

Tarriela noted that the BRP Teresa Magbanua has been deployed and is now on its 26th day at Escoda Shoal to ensure that China cannot resume its illegal activities in Philippine waters.
He also mentioned that the PCG hopes to "flex more muscles" in preventing the deployment of Chinese research vessels, maritime militia boats, and CCG ships in Philippine waters with the expected arrival of a 97-meter vessel from Japan.

India's Deep-Water Port Investment in Philippines: Strengthening Strategic Position Next to China.

Antipolo Magazine 2020  India's latest move to invest in a deep-water port in the Philippines underscores its strategic positioning in key maritime hubs. With investments already in Iran, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, and Oman, this expansion solidifies India's presence and strengthens its strategic stance vis-Γ -vis China. For years, China has pursued a "string of pearls" strategy, establishing infrastructure projects and staging posts across the Middle East and Asia to bolster its strategic influence and naval access. This initiative was later rebranded as the Maritime Silk Road. In 2024, India made significant strides in port investments abroad. Following Sri Lanka's experience of falling into a debt trap due to Chinese investments, the Sri Lankan government opted for Indian funding to renovate the Kankesanturai Port in the Northern Province. In a strategic move, India, in collaboration with a Russian firm, secured management rights for Sri Lanka's Mattala Rajapa
