PH & CHINA - The Philippines stops China's purported construction of 'artificial island' in the West Philippine Sea.

This move underscores the ongoing territorial disputes and tensions in the region, as both nations assert their claims over the strategically important waters. The prevention of this construction reflects the Philippines' commitment to protecting its maritime sovereignty and maintaining regional stability. Through continuous efforts, the Philippine government has successfully halted China's alleged illegal activities in the West Philippine Sea (WPS), specifically at Escoda Shoal. During a press forum on Saturday, May 11, 2024, Commodore Jay Tarriela, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) spokesperson for the WPS, reported that China had been attempting to construct an "artificial island" at Escoda Shoal, located just 75 nautical miles from the Palawan coastline. 2 new ATMOS 155mm howitzers are delivered to the third ID.

The Philippine Army has sent two newly acquired Autonomous Truck Mounted Howitzer System (ATMOS) 155mm self-propelled guns to the Capiz-based 3rd Infantry Division to enhance their ability to neutralize internal threats. 


The move is intended to contribute to the dismantling of the Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) in Western and Central Visayas. 


The PA received 12 units of the ATMOS 155mm self-propelled guns from Elbit Systems in December 2021, under the Horizon 2 of the Revised Armed Forces of the Philippines Modernization Plan, for PHP2.4 billion. 




The ATMOS 155mm self-propelled guns are capable of being easily deployed in rugged terrain and have a maximum range of 41 kilometers, depending on the ammunition used, and a target precision of 10 to 50 kilometers. 


The weapon incorporates an inertial navigation system (INS)-based gun-laying method and an automatic loader, and it would complement the existing 155mm towed-howitzers being operated by the Army Artillery Regiment.

DSWD Extends SLP Cash aid to Sari-sari stores and Micro rice retailers.

DSWD SECRETARY: Rex Gatchalian   The Department of Social Welfare and Development ( DSWD ) is actively disbursing cash aid to sari-sari store owners and micro rice retailers as part of their commitment to support businesses affected by the rice price ceiling implemented nationwide. This initiative is in direct response to President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s directive to DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian, urging assistance for small business owners grappling with losses due to the implementation of Executive Order No. 39 in 2023. The distribution of cash assistance is concurrently taking place in the Cagayan Valley Region, Cordillera Administrative Region ( CAR ), and MIMAROPA Region.
