China cautions the U.S. against deploying fighter jets piloted by Artificial Intelligence.

Antipolo Magazine 2020 On January 30, 2019, Roger Tanner and Bill Gray piloted the Variable Stability In-Flight Simulator Test Aircraft (VISTA) from Hill Air Force Base, Utah, to Edwards Air Force Base following modifications and a new paint scheme. The aircraft was redesignated from NF-16D to X-62A on June 14, 2021 (U.S. Air Force photo by Christian Turner). Recently, U.S. Air Force Secretary Frank Kendall flew aboard an experimental F-16 Fighting Falcon fighter jet equipped with artificial intelligence. This development has raised concerns for the People’s Republic of China, as AI-piloted combat aircraft could offer superior capabilities and faster response times compared to human-piloted planes.   Notably, this is not the first instance of testing an AI-controlled aircraft. In mid-April, the experimental X-62A VISTA, based on an F-16 fighter and used for AI testing, participated in simulated aerial combat against other F-16 fighters of the United States Air Force. At White Sands Missile Range, a Limited User Test (LUT) involving 30 military and 85 government contractors is being conducted

The goal of the test, according to a statement made by the US Army on April 18, is to determine whether the Sentinel A4 AN/MPQ-64A4 is suitable to take the role of the Sentinel A3 AN/MPQ-64A3 as the primary intermediate air and missile defense sensor for the US Army.

In order to determine Sentinel A4's suitability for field deployment, a test is being conducted by soldiers from various units and the Air and Missile Defense Test Directorate (AMTD) of the US Army Operational Test Command (USAOTC).

The test's goal is to determine whether the Sentinel A4 is ready for deployment. This will be done by testing the sensor's performance in various settings and scenarios, including spotting and following fake threats.

The Sentinel A4 is the first sensor modernisation project to be tested this year, according to Colonel Josh Moon, chief of the Air and Missile Defense Test Directorate of the US Army Operational Test Command (USAOTC) based in Fort Bliss, Texas.

Through the Integrated Battle Command System (IBCS), the Sentinel A4 will be integrated into the Army's primary priority, Integrated Air and Missile Defense (AIAMD).

Two Sentinel A4s are operational for many 72-hour Mission Pulses (MP) during the Limited User Test (LUT) in a section-sized element under a variety of day and night settings.

The Sentinel A4 will be used by soldiers in a variety of operationally realistic missions, including Integrated Fire Protection Capability (IFPC), Short Range Air Defense (SHORAD), and Counter Rocket Artillery Mortar (C-RAM), according to Capt. Matthew Altenberg, a test officer with AMDTD.

Given that the Sentinel A4 is a key component of the Army's air and missile defense systems, testing it is essential. The sensor's main job is to give soldiers on the ground reliable information they can use to effectively detect and intercept aerial threats.

PH & CHINA - The Philippines stops China's purported construction of 'artificial island' in the West Philippine Sea.

Antipolo Magazine 2020 Photo from PCG The Philippines has successfully halted China's alleged efforts to construct an artificial island in the West Philippine Sea. This move underscores the ongoing territorial disputes and tensions in the region, as both nations assert their claims over the strategically important waters. The prevention of this construction reflects the Philippines' commitment to protecting its maritime sovereignty and maintaining regional stability. Through continuous efforts, the Philippine government has successfully halted China's alleged illegal activities in the West Philippine Sea (WPS), specifically at Escoda Shoal. During a press forum on Saturday, May 11, 2024, Commodore Jay Tarriela, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) spokesperson for the WPS, reported that China had been attempting to construct an "artificial island" at Escoda Shoal, located just 75 nautical miles from the Palawan coastline.
